Forest Park, Birchwood, Warrington was the venue for the Cheshire Cross Country Championships on Saturday 5th January, where members of Halton and Frodsham Harriers put in some fine performances, despite the very heavy conditions of the course.
In the under 11 girls race, Jess Parsons led the squad home, finishing in the silver medal 2nd place, 7m.14s, (Jess Wright had a fall during the race, and was thought to have a broken ankle) Jenny Pyatt was 5th, 8m.06s, Anna Williams 10th, 8m.46s, Kate Merrill 11th, 8m.56s, Katie Morgan 12th, 9m.00s, Tori Acton 19th, 9m.40s, Katie Watson 22nd, 10m.45s.
Jess, Jenny,and Anna won the team silver medals, 17points, The B team of Kate, Katie Morgan, and Tori were in 4th place, 42 points.
Robbie Conduit was the leader home for the Harriers in the under 11 boys, he finished in a fine 9th place,7m.36s. Charlie Fletcher was 14th, 8m.00s, Jack Peacock 21st, 8m.33s, and George Metcalf 23rd, 10m.44s. Robbie, Charlie and Jack took 4th place in the team competition, 44 points.
Rachel Blount had a testing run in the under 13 girls race, finishing 16th, 15m.51s, Hannah Marsden was close behind in 19th place, 16m.37s, in 24th spot came Emma Pyatt, 17m.45s, this trio were placed 7th in the team placings, 59 points. Emma Scott was in 28th place,18m.17s, and Amy Wright 35th, 21m.57s.
The club had more medal successes in the under 13 boys event, Matthew Hulse just missing out on an individual medal finishing in 4th place, 6 seconds behind the third placed runner, 13m.05s, he was however in the team bronze medal position along with Robert McGeachie,6th, 13m.17s, and 12th placed Patrick Stradling, 14m.00s. Richard McGeachie finished 20th, 14m.39s, and Matthew Blount 26th, 16m.00s.
By the time the under 15 boys race was off the course had been well churned up and Mark Coman lost his shoes in the mud finishing the race "Zola Budd style" in 17th place, 17m.03s, David Tomalin came home in 23rd place, 18m.23s, Sam Stradling was 31st, 19m.07s, these three were placed 7th in the team competition, 71 points, Mike Fryer was in 38th place, 21m.44s
The next competition for the club is the last round match of the Northwest Sportshall League at the Kingsway Leisure Centre, Widnes on Sunday January 27th.
