The Harriers were once again at the pioneering forefront of junior athletics when they took part in the inaugural staging of the Cheshire Spring road relays which were held in the grounds of Marbury Country Park, near Northwich last weekend. Despite the temperature being close to freezing, the performances by the team members raised it by quite a few degrees resulting in a great win for the under 11 girls and some fine fast stage times. In the 3 x 2250m relay for the under 11 girls, the "A" squad of Kate Merrill, Jess Parsons and Jess Wright ran home clear winners in a time of 26m.50s, and the "B" team of Katie Morgan, Anna Williams and Jenny Pyatt just missed out on a third place by 21secs, finishing in 4th place, 30m.28s. Emily Pearson, Sally Hulse and Annabelle Kitchen were the third Harriers squad taking a creditable 6th place in 31m.31s Jess Wright also picked up the award for the fastest leg time in an equal first time of 8m.43s.Jess Parsons was 3rd fastest, 8m.49s, Kate Merrill was 5th, 9m.18s, Katie Morgan and Annabelle were equal 7th, 9m.42s. The under 11 boys "A" team just missed out on an award coming home in fourth place 28m.15s. Their individual performances were, Robbie Conduit, 9m.37s, Curtis Taylor, 9m.50s, and Charlie Fletcher running a great leg in 8m.48s, actually bettering the 3rd leg times of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd award winning teams. Joe Woolfe was the only member of the selected "B" team at the event, but did run a single leg in a time of 9m.17s. The longer 3 x 2850m relay was the event for older age groups, the Harriers under 13 girls team of Emma Scott, Amy Wright and Emma Pyatt ran home into a close 4th place, just 11 seconds from a third place. Indvidual times were, Emma Scott, 13m.34s, Amy, 14m.42s, Emma Pyatt, 12m.56s which were 7th, 8th and 9th best times. Under 13 boys Matthew Hulse, Patrick Stradling and Robert McGeachie who made up the "A" team had a splendid third place in their event, Robert putting in a great sprint finish to make sure of the team being in the awards. Individual times were, Matthew, 10m.07s, 5th best, Patrick, 10m.38s, Robert, 10m.27s, 8th best. Finishing in 6th place were the Harriers "B" squad, Jamie Cunliffe, 10m.45s, Richard McGeachie, 11m.21s and Jack Hilditch, 11m.18s, Overall time was 33m.58s. The under 15 boys team took a great 2nd place award, Mike Fryer, Sam Stradling and David Tomalin each running even paced legs for an overall time of 32m.30s.
