The Cheshire County Track and Field Championships 2008 were this year staged at a sunny Stanney Oaks Stadium, Ellesmere Port, and the Harriers members who took part in the competition had some very satisfactory results.

Under 17 lady, Nicole Bell competing in two events had good results in both. In the 200meters sprint she finished in 3rd in a respectable time of 29.6s and in the High Jump also took the 3rd place with a best of 1.45m, unfortunately because of the entries criteria there was no bronze medals this time for her.

In the under 15 girls events, Amy Wright featured well having a 5th place finish in the 100metres heats, her time of 15.1s just outside the qualifiing time for the final. In the discus however, she did have a great 3rd place grade 4 performance, throwing a best of 17.44m and in the long jump her best effort was 3.54m.

Emma Scott, Martha Cottrell, sisters Emily and Amy Pearson and Jess Parsons were the under 13 girls vying for the honours in their section of the championships. In the 80metres sprints, Emma and Martha both qualified for the final, each with times of 12.0s. in the final Martha improved her time finishing 6th, 11.8s and Emma was in 8th place, 12.1s. Emily 3rd,12.1s and Amy 4th, 12.4s in their heat were just outside the qualifiers for the final.

Martha had a 4th place in the 70m hurdles, 13.6s, while Emma competing in the 150metres heats crossed the line in 5th place time of 22.9s and then had a fine 8th place in the 800metres, 2m.50.9s her time.

In the long jump, Martha had a grade 4 performance result 7th place, 3.68m Emma was in 11th place with 3.48m and Emily not so far behind with a jump of 3.35m

One of the Harriers best performances of the championships was a second placed Jess in the 1500metres which earned her a well deserved silver medal, running a controlled paced race, she had a time of 5m.32.1s. The other highlight of the Harriers results was another silver medal won by under 13 boy Matthew Hulse also running a clever race in the 1500metres, running from the front, he just missed out on the gold medal, finishing 2nd, 5m.08.9s.

Richard McGeachie was also a competitor in the event, his determined run earned him a 4th place in a time of 5m.21.2s

The next competition for Harriers under 13 to under 17 age groups is the first round match in the Young Athletes League at Bangor on Sunday 18th May
