Members of the Harriers travelled to the Robin Park Leisure Centre, Wigan for the opening match of the North West Sportshall League 2008/09 where some hard fought for points were won which set the targets for the forthcoming matches of the season and eventually earn a place in the finals next year. The under 11 girls were up against some keen competition, Jess Wright putting the first points on the scoresheet with a 2nd A place in the 2 lap sprint, 24.8s. Annabelle Kitchen adding with a 3rd B in 25.9s. Non scoring results:- Megan McEveley, 26.5s, Charlotte Davies, 27.0s, Jenny Pyatt, 27.1s, Harriet Tomlinson, 27.9s, Ines Robinson, 28.1s, Georgia Massey, 28.2s, Georgia Southward, 31.5s. This pairing of Jess and Annabelle was also the points winning duo in the 4 lap races, Jess winning her race in 51.6s, Annabelle 3rd B in 55.2s, then turning their efforts to the standing long jump, Jess took the 1st A points with a best of 1.96mtrs and Annabelle's 1.68mtrs taking the 2nd B points. Ines Robinson had a non scoring jump of 1.10mtrs. Non scoring 4 lap results :- Georgia Massey, 59.4s, Jenny Pyatt, 59.6s and Megan McEveley, 56.8s who also won the 2nd A points in the vertical jump with 39, Charlotte Davies matching with a 2nd B best of 35. Non scorers were :- Harriet, 27, Ines, 26, Georgia Southward, 25. In the chest push event, Charlotte was in 3rd A spot with 5.75mtrs, Harriet Tomlinson had a best of 3.75mtrs taking the 4th B points. Georgia Southward had a throw of 3.50mtrs. Jenny Pyatt and Georgia Massey were the scoring pair in the speed bounce, Jenny's 46 took the 4th A points and Georgia's 38 winning the 4th B points. Jenny, Megan, Annabelle and Jess were the 4x2 lap relay squad carrying the baton home in 2nd place, 1m.44.7s. Emma Scott led the scoring in the under 13 girls competition with a 4th A in the 2 lap, 25.1s and Amy Pearson taking the 3rd B points with a time of 24.3s. Non scoring results :- Emily Pearson, 25.4s, Emma Pyatt, 26.3s, Emma Crosby, 27.9s, Katie Morgan, 28.0s. In the tougher 6 lap races, Emma was the winner in the A race, Emma Pyatt taking the B points with a 5th place 1m.24.4s. Kate Merrill running a non scoring race in 1m.26.1s, and Katie Morgan just behind in a time of 1m.30.0s. Amy, 2.30mtrs and Emma Pyatt, 1.87mtrs were the scorers in the long jump Kate Merrill jumped a non scoring1.77mtrs. In the vertical jump, Emily Pearson had a best of 43 good for the 4th A points and Emma Crosby's 35 took the 5th B points. Emily was the A scorer in the shot put with 5.20mtrs and Kate's 4.26mtrs won the 5th B points. Amy and Kate were close in the speed bounce, Amy taking the 3rd A with 78 and Kate with 73 took the 3rd B points. Emma Scott non scored with 68. The two Emmas, Emily and Amy were placed 3rd in the relay, 1m.39.9s. Starting the under 11 boys events Harry Stubbs and Ben Sutcliffe won the points in the 2 lap, Ben's 24.9s and Harry's 26.1s scoring in the A and B races. Non scoring results :- Stephen Baxter, 27.0s, Will Fletcher, 27.4s, Max Tonge, 28.0s, Luke Bratt, 28.3s, Alistair Grant and Connor Slater both with 28.8s. In the 4 lap, Jack Peacock ran 54.6s for a 2nd A place and Will Parsons finished in a 3rd B in 57.6s. Ben had a 1.80mtrs leap in the long jump taking the 4th A points and Max Tonge's 1.47mtrs won the 4th B.Connor Slater, 1.38mtrs and Alistair Grant, 1.34mtrs were in the non scoring event. Ben added to his scoring with a 4.96mtrs 4th A in the triple jump, Luke Bratt taking the 3rd B with a best of 4.60mtrs, Will Fletcher non scorer with 4.58mtrs. The two Wills were together in the speed bounce, Will Fletcher winning the 3rd A points with a 47 and Will Parsons 2nd B with 44, Luke had a non scoring 41 and Alistair 33, also non scoring. In the chest push, Jack threw 5.75mtrs for 3rd A and Connor threw 5.00mtrs for 3rd B. Max and Will Parsons were non scorers with 5.00mtrs and 4.75 mtrs respectively Harry, Ben, Will Parsons and Jack were placed 4th in the relay, 1m.46.1s. Matthew Hulse, Richard McGeachie, Jorge Peacock, Charlie Fletcher and James Baker were the boys competing in the under 13s part of the match, Matthew and Richard taking the points in the 2 lap races, Matthew 3rd A, 26.1s and Richard 3rd B, 26.2s Jorge had a non scoring time of 31.2s In the 6 lap, Matthew took the 2nd A points, 1m.24.5s and Richard the 2nd B, 1m.30s, James 1m.28.1s and Charlie 1m.29s were non scorers Charlie's long jump of 1.73mtrs won the 3rd A points and James had a best of 1.36mtrs taking the 3rd B points. Jorge was a close non scorer with 1.30mtrs, but went on to win the 4th A place in the shot put with 4.40mtrs. In the triple jump Matthew took the 3rd A points with 5.20mtrs and Richard rounded off the individual scoring with 74 in the speed bounce which earned him an equal 1st A place. Matthew, Richard, Charlie and James ran 1m.42.3s in the relay for a 2nd place finish. The quartet of Robert McGeachie, James Crosby, David Hayes and Mark Deeprose made up the under 15 boys squad, Robert and James each taking 2nd places in the 2 lap, Robert taking the A points in 24.2s and James the B in 24.9s, David, 23.8s and Mark 24.1s were in the non scoring races. Robert had a splendid win in the 6 lap, taking the 1st A points in 1m.20.4s. David had a best of 2.51mtrs in the long jump taking the 2nd A points and Mark won the 2nd B points with 2.20mtrs. James had a non scoring effort of 2.09mtrs. Robert and James were paired in the triple jump and the speed bounce, each taking 2nd places in both events. 5.50mtrs for Robert in the triple jump and 5.47mtrs for James, 74 for Robert in the speed bounce and 70 for James. David put in a splendid effort in the shot put. With a throw of 10.00mtrs he took the 2nd A points and Mark's 7.27mtrs good for the 1st B points.
