A cold and frosty day at the Knights Grange Sports Complex, Winsford heralded the staging of the Cheshire County Cross Country Championships, where a number of the Halton and Frodsham Harriers braved the elements, and each putting in some fine performances.

In the under 11 girls race, Georgia Massey was the first Harrier home in 7m.52s, Charlotte Davies 8th, 8m.21s, Jenny Pyatt 11th, 8m.21s, these three taking the 2nd team award with a score of 23 points. Other finishers were, Megan McEverley 16th, 9m.00s, Annabel Kitchen 19th, 9m.03s, Emily Ross 21st, 9m.06s, Sally Hulse 23rd,9m.13s, Molley Stradling 28th, 10m.03s. Megan, Annabel and Emily scored 56 points taking the 5th team place as the "B" team.

Jess Parsons led the team home in the under 13 girls race finishing in third place in 11m.35s and taking the bronze medal for her efforts. Sophia Ellison ran home into 7th place in 12m.09s, Emma Pyatt's 9th place finish in 12m.18s ensured the silver medals for second team award, scoring 19 points.

Kate Merrill was 13th, 12m.42s, Katy Morgan 15th, 12m.55s, Emma Scott 19th,13m.42s, these three taking the 6th team place for the "B" team.

The under 11 boys were in the picture for the team awards, Will Parsons leading them home in 5th place 7m.20s, Harry Stubbs next in 8th place, 7m.33s and Tom Merrill completing the score with a 19th place in 8m.23s, 32 points, taking the 2nd place team award.

Will Fletcher was 27th, 8m.37s, Alister Grant 28th, 8m.38s, Luke Bratt 31st, 9m.05s, and Johnathon Jones 35th, 10m.14s.

The highlight of the day for the Harriers was the terrific performance by Matthew Hulse in the under 13 boys race. He set off over the course leading from the gun and crossed the line in 10m.21s,a 25 second lead over the second placed runner and so took the champions gold medal. Robbie Conduit was in 35th place, 13m.32s, Charlie Fletcher 36th, 13m.15s, Joe Woolf 40th, 13m.48s, David Bergstrand 42nd, 14m.03s.

In the under 15 boys race Richard McGeachie was the first Harrier home in a creditable 22nd place 18m.05s, and James Crosby also had a determined run finishing 40th, 23m.45s.

Mark Coman ran in the under 17 mens race and finished in a very good time of 20m.47s for the 9th place.

The next competition for the Harriers is the last match in the North West Sportshall League which is to be staged at the Kingsway Leisure Centre, Widnes on the 18th of January, 12 pm start.
