The Harriers had some of their under 11 girls and boys representing Cheshire in the "Aviva Fun In Athletics" North West Regional final, staged at the EIS stadium, Manchester at the weekend. This was a competition for the best available young athletes from all of the counties in the North West of England and gives a first taste of representative competition.
In the teams there were five girls and two boys from the club who had been selected for the county, each playing their part to put the points on the score sheets.
Charlotte Allen, Alex Hurst, Emelia Povall-Clark, Natasha Treharne and Grace Wilding were the girls competing in relays and field events, the team finishing in a creditable 5th place overall.
Charlotte took the 14th place, and 5th place team points, in the javelin with 10mtrs. She placed 14th in the long jump with 1m78 where she teamed up with Emilia (11th, 1m80) and Grace (12th, 1m80) to take 4th team points in the standing long jump.
Alex took 11th place in the target throw and 8th team points with her Cheshire teammate. In the balance test, Natasha placed equal 17th and Emelia was 21st, combining to score team points for 6th position.
Grace took part in the speed bounce event, placing 13th with a score of 48, and with her Cheshire teammates took the 3rd place points for this event.
The two boys in the county team were Jacob Birtles and Luke Southerton again each scoring valuable points which helped to put the team in 2nd place overall.
In the target throw, Jacob took the 16th place and 5th team points. Luke had two good results in the speed bounce 51 for 4th place (and 1st place points for Cheshire with a teammate from Crewe & Nantwich) and 1m90 in the long jump taking the 8th place to bag the 2nd place points with two other Cheshire long jumpers.
