The club is delighted to have been successful in obtaining 1 of 20 "small club" ballot places in the 2020 London Marathon. To make the distribution of this place fair, we'll run a ballot following the rules below. If you want to be in the ballot, please follow the guidelines below and we'll announce the winner on here before Christmas.
We will run the ballot according to the rules below. These aim to prioritise club members who are actively seeking a place in the race, and ensure the place is fairly allocated.
  • The club has been allocated one place in the 2020 London Marathon
  • One entry per person only
  • There is no charge to be in the ballot
  • Please do not enter unless you fully intend to run the 2020 London Marathon
  • You must be eligible to run the London Marathon under their race rules (e.g. over 18 on the date of the race, etc)
  • Entry is for the individual only - the place cannot be passed on to anyone else
  • The entrant must pay all fees and charges associated with the entry (approx £35, to be confirmed)
  • Entry is limited to those who are:-
    • Club members who joined on or before 28th October 2019
    • Parents of club members whose child joined on or before 28th October 2019
    • Brothers or sisters of club members whose sibling joined on or before 28th October 2019
    • Final decisions on eligibility will be determined by the Club Secretary
  • Requests to be included in the ballot must be received by midnight on 14th December 2019
  • Requests to be included in the ballot must be emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it with the word "Marathon" in the message title so it is not overlooked
  • Entrants will be placed into three "buckets" to prioritise the draw. With only one place available, the allocation will go to someone in the first bucket, if there is at least one applicant. If not, then the second bucket, then the third.
    • First bucket - paid up club members with membership prior to 28th October 2019 who have been rejected from the main national London Marathon 2019 ballot
    • Second bucket - paid up club members with membership prior to 28th October 2019
    • Third bucket - all other eligible individuals as described above (e.g. parents, siblings etc)
  • All entrants will be allocated an individual number. A random draw will take place on or shortly after 15th December 2019 and the winner will be notified by email.
  • If for whatever reason the club should not be able to secure an official club place in the 2020 London Marathon, the club will be under no obligation to secure a place for any individual who has been successful in this ballot
  • Applicants should note that the club place is NOT transferrable, but it may be deferred for 1 year only (subject to the London Marathon organisers continuing to allow this)
  • No-one who has entered this ballot will take part in the draw to determine the results
  • Halton & Frodsham Harriers Athletics Club reserves the right to amend these rules at any time and to implement them as it, at its absolute discretion, see fit whilst adhering to the fundamental principles of fairness, transparency and equity
