In the Under 11s, Charlie R ran a strong race to place 26/66 and Charlie L placed 46/66. Aidan L kept in touch with the field to finish in 66/66.

In the League overall, Charlie L had competed in all four of the League races in his first XC season and placed 38 overall, and Aidan L also ran all four and placed 57/58.

In the U13s, Joseph L and Beth G represented the club. Joseph finished 41/56 in the boys race, and Beth finished 49/73.

Overall, Joseph ran in all five of the events and placed 39/56 overall. Beth also ran in all five and placed 36/47.

Matt H continued his great XC season in the lower year of the U15 boys, and once again had a strong race to finish 22/37.

Rewarding his hard work over the season, Matt finished 18/28 in the league.

Sarah L and Matt L both were the only seniors running in the V45 age category in the women’s and men’s races to round out the season. Sarah covered the 4.2 mile course in 39m34s and placed 40/49 226/270. In her debut season, she placed 32/36 in her age group league and 172/193 overall within the senior women. Matt ran the 5.8m course in 40m31s and placed 24/61 in the V45 age group and 204/402 overall. In the League, he finished 15/43 and 117/261 overall.

Well done to all the club members who have run XC races in the League this season, as well as in the XC champs - we’d love to see more young (and not so young!) athletes running in the League next season too!!

The club expects as a minimum that all club members attend at least one Cheshire T&F League during the season, but we really need you to turn out for as many events as possible - not only will this help the team score in the League, but it will put the training time and effort that you spend with your coaches into action!

Cheshire T&F League - match 1 - Ellesmere Port track Print

Thursday, 19 April 2018

It's the first club match of the outdoor season on Sunday 5th May as we take on West Cheshire AC (hosts), Crewe & Nantwich, Warrington, Wrexham and East Cheshire in round 1 of the Cheshire Track & Field League.  Please arrive promptly before 10:45 (see below).

The location is the athletics track next to the Ellesmere Port Sports Village.

The Cheshire Track & Field League is the only league the club takes part in, with 4 matches throughout the summer. The races and field events are genuinely for all comers - if you're a club member we will cheer you on the track and in the field at whatever level of performance you're at, so don't be afraid to lace up your shoes and have a go.

All we ask is for you to turn out, do your best and support the rest of your team.  Put your training into competitive practice and reward your coaches by showing them what they've helped you to achieve.

Most younger athletes will turn out for the day with family in tow, and the afternoon's can be a glorious day out in the sun with a picnic!

Each club scores points through performance AND participation. For example, in the sprints there are four races - A to D. The fastest in race A scores 24 points, and the slowest in that race scores 19 points. Then the fastest in race B scores 18 points, and the slowest 13 points etc. So even if you don't think of yourself as a sprinter but you race in the A race, you will score highly for the team no matter how fast you run, and if we can fill all the spots with a runner in each race we'd score 40 points at the very least.

In some events, other clubs won't be able to fill their spots, so even if you've not putted a shot before, you might find yourself scoring very highly by having a go - and as a bonus, you might discover a hidden talent!!

The timetable for the day is available here (click here) - please note the unusual start time with the first race (Seniors and U17s 3000m) at 11:00 and the short sprints at 11:30.  This means all athletes should register with team managers at 10:45 AT THE LATEST

Under 11s can take part in three events plus the relay and team managers will endeavour to create as high a scoring team as possible so please make yourselves available to take part in non-specialist events to support the team.

There is no "stand" at the track at Ellesmere Port, so picnic blankets, foldable chairs, sun tents etc are the order of the day.

NW Sportshall League Final Print

Four of the club's 6 squads had successfully qualified for the NW Sportshall League Finals on Sunday, and everyone who was able to turn out in the U11 and U15 teams put in strong performances.

Under 11s

The Under 11s meeting took place in the morning with the boys and girls competing at events they'd mastered during the league, as well as some new events which are reserved for the finals.

For the girls, the team of Hannah Martin, Sophie Wignal, Kate Shaw, Jessie McCleana and Elin Brooks took part in the individual races first of all, before moving onto the field events. The team finished fifth overall, with the larger turnouts from other teams being decisive. But with strong individual performances, including 1st place for Sophie in the foam javelin, and 3rd place for Jessie in the chest push, they can all be very proud of their performances.

The boys team comprised 6 athletes, Lewis Wilson, Kai Cairns, Charlie Larkin, Jacob Fitsimon, Charlie Ashbrook and Luke Simpson. Again up against large squads, the boys took 4th place overall. Lewis placed 1st in the vertical jump, Jacob was third in standing triple jump and a four-man team took on the Under and Over relay and took 3rd place.

Under 15s

The afternoon session for U13s and U15s was another busy session, though with no club U13 squads making it to the final it was up to the U15 teams to represent the club and also compete for individual medals which are awarded in the U15 category only.

The girls squad comprised Chloe Lea, Maddy Rowland, Libby Acton, Millie Sayers and Izzy Hurst and again the size of the other squads outweighed good individual performances from our athletes. Millie was able to take away a bronze medal for her performance in the vertical jump, and the team took 2nd place in the 4x1 lap relays whilst the team overall placed 5th.

Due to illness, the U15 boys team comprised just one athlete - Aidan Larkin. Proving that it is all about the taking part, and with small numbers from the other clubs, Aidan was clearly delighted to be able to take away 4 individual medals (3 bronze and 1 silver) for his performances across the 4 and 6 lap races, triple jump and shot. And to cap off a fine day, Aidan's performances resulted in the U15 boys team finishing in 4th place, beating Crewe & Nantwich into 5th!
